From a very good writer and journalist, Juan Williams writing for The Hill with this excellent opinion piece (formatted to fit the
blog) with this headline:
“GOP
will stop at nothing if it wins midterms”
If GOP wins the
house expect these few things.
First this from Steve
Bannon on the evening of his criminal conviction for defying the committee’s
subpoena. He appeared on Fox News (naturally) to announce plans
for future GOP House majority hearings saying in part: “I will tell the January 6 staff right now,
preserve your documents, because there’s going to be a real committee and
this has to be backed by Republican grassroots voters.”
Second, and with such
a sad prospect looming, it is useful to remember the reason why Rep. Kevin McCarthy
(R-CA) was forced to drop his bid for Speaker back in 2015 when he slipped up
and said the quiet part out loud by admitting that the Hillary Clinton-Benghazi
hearings had nothing to do with concern over a U.S. military operation in
Libya as he explained to Sean Hannity on Fox: “There were about bloodying up Hillary Clinton politically so she would
be easier to beat in 2016. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable,
right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What
are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s
untrustable. But no one would have known any of that had happened had we not
fought and made that happen.”
Then as now, those
hearings have nothing to do with truth. They are empty political
theater. Expect the same shenanigans if the GOP gains majority
control of the Senate.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wants
to skewer Dr. Fauci, Biden’s chief medical adviser, will use his subpoena
power as he seeks to counter memories of Trump’s failure to keep
Americans safe from COVID-19, saying: “When we take over in November, I will be chairman of a committee and
I will have subpoena power, And we will get to the bottom of where this virus
came from.”
The GOP may win the midterms because
voters, upset about inflation, gun violence, gas and food
prices, and they will register anger at the party in power. Then, once
the GOP wins, its focus will be revenge like: “Let’s get
back to Hillary’s emails and Benghazi,” or “Has anyone seen Obama’s
birth certificate?”
Their list will be very long and will be nothing but endless
GOP revenge hearings, and maybe led by Trump himself that could prevail until
the U.S.A. historical name becomes “Trump Empire, Inc.”
My 2 Cents: As I said Juan
Williams wrote an excellent piece and worth our attention.
I also posted about that
same general topic on Trump and GOP’s revenge campaign here,
here,
here,
and here.
Now with this breaking
news story a lot of action is forthcoming and it will top Watergate 1,000-fold –
bet on it. Story from the “right-leaning” Washington Examiner here with this headline: “Trump lawyers preparing for possible
charges from DOJ: Report”
One strategy is to blame
those who falsely advised Trump – and for him loyalty is a one-way street to
him, not from him. Plus, he usually has a backdoor escape route to safety but I
think not this time. We shall see.
As always stay well and
hang on tight – it might get much worse.
Thanks for stopping by.
