If the expulsion of any members of congress ever was needed
and called for, it surely are those in the following story and at this moment in time. The story is from The Hill with this headline:
“Gaetz, Greene, and Gohmert turned away from jail to visit January 6 defendants”
Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz (FL), Majorie Taylor Greene (GA), and Louie Gohmert (TX) were turned away from the D.C. Department
of Corrections (DOC) where they tried to visit with the accused rioters
from January 6.
DOC officers said the group was trespassing and
“obstructing entrance into this facility and were thus denied entry.”
Rep. Gohmert said: “The
supervisor came down and was standing right here and turned her back on me. The
other one said she won’t talk anymore and that we’re trespassers. We’re in
totalitarian, Marxist territory here. This is the way third-world people get
treated.”
Gaetz said the
representatives, later joined by Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), said they were concerned that the detainees were lacking
access to evidence and concerned about their treatment, which is why they
showed up at the facility to get a tour.

A spokesperson for the Department of Corrections told The Hill in a statement that the trio just showed up unannounced with an unauthorized camera crew requesting a facility tour, then adding: “By doing so, these officials compromised safety and security operations at the DOC. Safety and security related to DOC’s facilities, staff and residents is a high priority and for that reason DOC has established procedures and protocols related to visits to its facilities. Visitors, which include family members of residents, attorneys, and public officials, must adhere to the rules and procedures of the DOC.”
My 2 Cents: Simply stated
– those four and any similar like-minded hard-core GOP conservatives,
namely any of those 30 or so in the GOP’s called “Freedom Caucus” (the old “Tea
Party” gang recycled) are despicable people, poor members of Congress, and this attempted jail visit by Greene, Gohmert, and Gaetz (himself under possible
jail time) proves my point beyond any reasonable doubt.
The January 6 “detainees”
as they called them are criminals who tried to overthrow the government and
cancel the 2020 election in order to keep Trump in power. That by any definition is an insurrection – a classic textbook legal definition.
So, I wonder what Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) GOP House Minority leader will say about that stunt? Um ... probably nothing, or nothing worthwhile.
