Former VP Mike Pence appeared on ABC “This Week” with this
is stunning headline from the DAILY BEAST regarding his interview:
“Mike Pence Calls Potential
Trump Indictment as ‘Radical Left’ Act”
Pence stuck by his former boss on Sunday (March 19)
arguing a potential indictment and prosecution of Trump would amount to a political hit job.
Pence appeared on ABC’s This Week, where he told host Jonathan Karl that a Trump indictment by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would simply indulge the “radical left.” It follows similar language from Pence in recent weeks as he considers a 2024 presidential run.
Pence told Karl: “I’m taken aback at
the idea of indicting a former president of the United States, at a time when
there’s a crime wave in New York City. The fact that the Manhattan DA thinks
that indicting President Trump is his top priority, I think… just tells you
everything you need to know about the radical left in this country.”
Pence has not shied away from criticizing his former running mate in recent months, though he has consistently been less eager to urge his prosecution.
He then let out a snark: “Here
we go again” to reporters in Iowa on Saturday, calling an indictment
(which Trump claimed would come Tuesday, despite no notice from the Manhattan
DA) is politically motivated.
In a report from Des Moines Register Pence said: “Another politically charged prosecution against the former president of the United States. I think many Americans are taken aback at the unprecedented indictment of a former president, but also the fact that the Manhattan DA in the midst of a crime wave in NYC, then says that indicting the former president is his highest priority.”
Pence then told Politico following what he told reporters in NH about any decision
to drop out of the race following an indictment up to Trump: “Look, it’s a free
country. Everybody can make their own decisions.”
Pence seemed more willing, however, to aid an investigation into Trump than he has in the past. Karl asked if Pence would consider speaking to special counsel Jack Smith on issues unrelated to Pence’s role as president of the Senate, a defense he has pledged to use in court to try and skirt speaking before the special counsel.
Note: S/C Smith is investigating (1) Trump’s
efforts to overturn the 2020 election and (2) his handling of classified documents
after he left office.
Pence earlier noted his
narrow defense, though he would not confirm directly whether he would appear
before Smith on other matters.
Pence said regarding that:
“I’ve directed my attorneys to make a strong case in defense of my role as
president of the Senate, presiding over a joint session of Congress on that day
and in the preparation for that, and we’ll let the courts sorted out. But I’ve
actually never asserted that other matters unrelated to January 6 would
otherwise be protected by speech and debate.”

And, finally this reminder of the explosive testimony from former Trump CoS, Mark
Meadows’ aide, Ms. Cassidy Hutchinson to the January House Select Committee: She was a
secondhand witness to a more shocking story about the president upon being told
the rioters were chanting “Hang Mike Pence.”
Politico reported (May 25, 2022) that the January 6 House Committee heard her testimony indicating that Meadows heard Trump say something supportive about rioters chanting “Hang Mike Pence.”
Outside rioters were prepared to do that:
Another witness told the committee that Meadows had been in the dining room off the Oval Office when Trump made the comment and that he told people nearby that: “Trump had signaled a positive view of the prospect of hanging the vice president.”
The NY
Times reported that
Hutchinson was in Meadows’ office when she heard him confirm that account as she
told the committee.
Ms. Hutchinson’s 19-minute
committee testimony can be seen and heard here – it is very compelling.
My 2 Cents: It’s plain to see that Pence wants it many ways: (1) To run against Trump while hoping if Trump is indicted he can pick up Trump
supporters by bashing the DEMS, DA Bragg, and still come off clean by not
bashing Trump; and (2) Not to piss off Trump while believing but not saying he is gross
and wrong (and again to gain and keep MAGA supporters).
But in the end no matter,
Mike Pence is a pitifully weak, two-faced candidate for president. Now or at
any time no matter how the cards are dealt he is not prepared for that office.
In short, he quite simply is a loser.
Thanks for stopping by.
