Astonishing and yet typical GOP strong-arm story. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), GOP House minority leader threatens Republicans about accepting January 6 committee assignment.

McCarthy issued a stark warning to Republicans warning them not to accept an appointment to the January 6 select committee being set up by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. 

McCarthy, Punchbowl News reports, during a meeting with freshman lawmakers warned that if any Republican accepts an appointment from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to serve on a select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot, and he added: “They better be ready to get all their committee assignments from her.”

He warned them that Republicans must get their committee assignments from Republicans and not Democrats, or else.

CNN reports that McCarthy threatened to strip Republican lawmakers of their committee assignments should they accept an offer to serve on the Capitol riot committee, and the alleged threat was confirmed by Forbes, which cited two GOP aides. 

My 2 Cents: The recent bill passed by the House (H. R. 503) says GOP Minority Leader (McCarthy) and the DEM Speaker (Pelosi) nominate party members for the committee and the Speaker may or may not approve them to sit – e.g., probably none like Reps. Taylor Greene, Boebert, Gohmert, Jordan, or any other conspiracy-spewing radicals, or anyone who voted against the original bill that sought to establish a fully non-partisan, independent commission like the 9/11 commission, and now running roughshod on this critical issue is awful. 

In short: The public needs and in most polls, demands to know the full truth — the whole story. 

So, for Rep. McCarthy and Sen. McConnell: Why is finding the truth about that horrible January 6 insurrection on the National Capitol bother you two so much that you both want to just forget about it (LA Times story). 

Those two and a majority of the “Trump-owned and operated” GOP are a pitiful mess of people. 

The public must hold them accountable - all of them, period.
