Dateline India: Health Ministry Finds Two Virus Variants Mutating into One

(Two variants mutated into new one)

Very startling news from India re: the pandemic via the BBC News with this headline:

A double mutant COVID-19 variant has been found in India. Here’s what that means

India’s Health Ministry has released a new report that reveals a new “double mutant” COVID-19 variant that has already started to spread across the country. A double mutation variant is “two mutations coming together in the same virus,” the report says.

However, India said the new “double mutant” hasn’t led to an increase in cases yet, adding:Though (variants of concern) and a new double mutant variant have been found in India, these have not been detected in numbers sufficient to either establish or direct relationship or explain the rapid increase in cases in some states. Genomic sequencing and epidemiological studies are continuing to further analyze the situation.” (From the health ministry).

Virologists told BBC News: “A double mutant might make key changes to the virus that will allow it to evade vaccines. A double mutation in the key areas of the virus’s spike protein may increase the risks and allow the virus to escape the immune system and make it more infectious.”

My 2 cents: The full story is here w/o my editing.

This story follows my earlier post (below here).

– I have to admit, it’s a bit scary to say the least.

It sure seems this virus strain is “smart and very adaptable” and it might be the path to work and wipe out all mankind – sounds hyperbolic, I know, but the medical facts are hard to ignore, aren’t they.

Also, I'm sure the experts are one top of this, but the fast-acting and adaptable virus seems to be steps ahead of the experts, which may be normal since this is new territory for everyone involved in medicine.

Thanks for stopping by.
