Roll back the clock one month ago to Saturday, September 12,
2020 in Nevada during a Trump rally is this
reminder from NBC news with this headline:
“Trump accuses Democrats
of rigging the November election during Nevada rally”
Trump repeated unsubstantiated claims that mail-in ballots
would contribute to widespread voter fraud in the November election, adding to
wild cheers and applause: “The Democrats
are trying to rig this election because that’s the only way they’re going to
win.”
In a meandering 90-minute speech, Trump touched on some of
his campaign's themes: (1) protecting the Second Amendment right to bear arms, (2)
securing the U.S.-Mexico border, (3) ending ongoing civil unrest, and (4) beating
former Vice President Joe Biden, saying: “Let's face it – Joe is shot. He's
going to be locked up someplace, and the radical left is going to be running
our country.”
Trump addressed a sea of supporters in the evening on the
tarmac of Nevada's Minden-Tahoe Airport. And, as usual, many were not wearing
masks or practicing social distancing despite the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump was initially scheduled to hold a fundraiser and rallies in Las Vegas and Reno, but the campaign had to make last-minute changes because of state coronavirus restrictions banning gatherings of more than 50 people.
Trump also addressed that change in location accusing Nevada’s Gov.
Steve Sisolak (D) of attempting to shut down the campaign rally because of
political bias, saying in part: “He tried to stop us. He couldn't, and now he's
in charge of the election. He can rig the election.”
In Nevada, the governor does not oversee elections or their
results. That duty, BTW, falls to the secretary of state and county clerks.
Nevada is one of several states where registered voters can request to cast
their ballots by mail. Dozens of other states will also allow mail-in voting
in November. Despite his opposition to that, it is noted that Trump himself requested a mail-in ballot earlier this
year.
He concluded his rant by saying: “This mail-in voting is the
greatest scam in the history of presidential politics.”
I add: But never
Russia, right Mr. President? Reminders here
(2016 cycle), here
(2018 cycle), and here
(2020 cycle).
My 2 cents: Voting by mail
is as old as the country and has a long history of being safe and secure.
Recall that Trump himself and
Melania voted by mail along with this laundry list of people around him – reported
on here from the NY Magazine:
When asked about and after
his false comments
on it being rigged, a reporter reminded him that he voted by mail in the 2018
midterm. “Well sure, I could vote by mail. I wasn’t able to get down my primary
residence in Florida to do so.” (Note: That despite him visiting his golf
course in that state some 89
times since becoming president).
Vice-President Mike Pence;
Adviser and daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner; W/H Press
Secretary Kayleigh McEnany; Cabinet Members: AG Bill Barr; Ed Secy Betsy DeVos;
Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow; Labor Secy Wilbur Ross, Kellyanne Conway; HHS
Secy Alex Azar; RNC Chair Ronna (Romney) McDaniel; and now former Campaign
Manager Brad Parscale.
Want hypocrisy – that is
it.
Worse, is that Trump still
talks about the election being rigged, fixed, and fraudulent against him with
no evidence and yet voter intimidation by armed Trump’s “militia Army” as they
are called scaring voters is okay?
Thanks for stopping by.
