This is a huge story from USA Today and quite long, and it is very disconcerting, too... and mostly illegal across the board.
Americans have plenty of concerns surrounding the November 3 election, like: (1) will our vote count, (2) is there any foreign interference, (3) fear of catching coronavirus while standing at the polls, (4) will the USPS let us down with service delays, and (5) what about “lost ballots, court fights and such.
The last thing people need is one more thing to worry about and that
is this: “Poll watcher intimidation.”
Story Background History and Highlights:
· This is the first presidential election that's
not bound by the terms of the DNC/RNC 1982 consent decree.
· That decades-old agreement between the Republican
and Democrat National Committees was designed and agreed to for the purpose to limit
the RNC's participation in voter intimidation and suppression tactics at that
time nationwide.
· It was set up after the DNC accused the RNC of
engaging in voter intimidation when off-duty officers were sent to patrol
voting in NJ communities of color at that time.
· One concern is that the RNC will once again send
off-duty officers to the polls in neighborhoods with large populations of
people of color, where residents are skeptical of police presence (e.g., NC,
SC, GA, AL, MS, and a few other places).
My 2 Cents: This USA Today
lays out in stark terms the process we see now regarding voter intimidation and
blatant interference and polling places and as note most of it is illegal and unlawful,
and that should and must concern us all as we want safe and secure voting.
Thanks for stopping by.
