MUELLER'S REPORT IN REVERSE: TRUMP’S WITCH HUNT

WASHINGTON (NY Times) (May 18. 2020) – AG Barr dismissed Trump’s attempts to rebrand the Russia investigation as a criminal plot engineered by former President Barack Obama. 

Barr said he expected no charges against either Obama or former VP Joe Biden as a result of an investigation into how their administration handled the 2016 Russian election interference, saying in part: “As long as I’m attorney general, the criminal justice system will not be used for partisan political ends.”

Barr said his Federal prosecutor, John Durham, now investigating how law enforcement and intelligence officials confronted Russia’s operations to meddle in the 2016 election, was examining some aspects of the case as potential crimes but that he was focused on other people, not Obama or Biden. 

But Barr noted there was a difference between abusing power and violating the law, emphasizing as he previously said that he believes that law enforcement and intelligence officials unfairly targeted Trump as they sought to understand links between his campaign and Russia.

My note: Unfairly is in the eyes of the current beholder and way off the mark.

Unfairly, in such unusual and high-profile investigation vis-à-vis Russia, Trump campaign, and all the leads that the FBI and others worked would naturally appear to be unfair by some (mostly Republican hardnose conservatives) but not in the early stages of the original investigation. Every lead they had early on was unusual, unhistorical, and urgent and yes, sometimes leads go nowhere. In this case it has been proven the lead all led to Russia and Putin's touch. The proof is in the dozens of Mueller indictments and prison time for many of those around Trump. 

True, mistakes are made in any early stages of any investigation, but I have full faith and trust in the FBI and others that their aim was NOT politically motivated against Trump but rather aimed at the circumstances (e.g., extent of Trump-Russia ties connections based early leads and within strict FBI guidelines).

The same rules and investigative process would have applied had officials been following any Clinton-Russian connection as a lead – no difference to where it led if anywhere – that’s how investigators work.

In this case, however, most Republicans continue to look for zebras in the forest and as we all know quite well, zebras don’t live in the forest. Their zebra was Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden both now cleared by AG Barr, and rightly so.
