Mar-a-Lago Doc Case: Judge Cannon Again Delays Trump Trial as Huge Favor

Judge Cannon must be removed from the case

Judge Cannon in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case has to be removed from the case – ASAP – and now more so based on this newest article here from SALON.com.

The main reason is of course more delaying and stalling tactics Cannon keeps using to please Trump by moving the court date again and again and again now with this newest headline story:

“Judge Cannon grants Trump's latest request for a delay, possibly pushing trial to after the election”

Cannon, who was appointed by Trump, has repeatedly granted defense requests to postpone the case

The federal judge overseeing Trump’s classified documents case has reversed her own decision and elected to postpone the deadline for a crucial court filing in the criminal proceeding. This decision, revealed Monday, increases the risk that the trial will be pushed back past the November election.

Judge Aileen M. Cannon’s postponement of the filing deadline — a list of the classified documents that the defense team would like to present at trial — is another feather in Trump’s cap, marking his latest successful attempt at delaying the classified documents trial. If he wins, Trump can then order his Justice department to drop the matter entirely (New York Times report).

Trump's lawyers were supposed to file their list by the upcoming Thursday, a deadline Cannon herself had set last month. However, Cannon did not announce a new deadline, nor has not announced a new trial start date. The trial had been slated to start May 20, but that date was scrapped at a March 1 hearing.

When the list of defense documents is filed, it will be an integral part of the criminal trial, with lawyers for both sides arguing over what jurors would be allowed to hear at trial.

This is “a contested process, balancing issues of public access and national security, that could take months to complete,” (re: in the above NY TIMES article)

The first time Trump’s team asked for a delay of the deadline was about a month ago, when they sought to have it pushed to June. At the time, they argued that they were too busy defending the former president in one of the other four criminal cases against him: The Manhattan so-called Stormy Daniels “hush money” trial.

Now, Trump’s defense team has pointed to a different reason, arguing that S/C Jack Smith’s office hadn’t properly secured the classified files that they seized them from Trump’s private club and residence in Mar-a-Lago. And, now they say they need more time to assess that revelation.

Smith in his filing noted that some of the files were not in their original order, possibly due to an earlier review by Cannon’s Special Master whom the Trump defense had sought.

My 2 Cents: On that last point, it is highly unlikely that Cannon will or would ever admit to that kind of error from her side, although it is 100% plausible it is from her side and a very delay excuse, too.

FYI: For anyone who ever packed boxes it is a well-known fact that boxes when not totally filled or sealed tightly would likely see that the loose objects inside would move around inside the box. So, that is another weak Trump team excuse and a very implausible stalling tactic and trial delay stunt.

Also, in my view I believe S/C Jack Smith should go directly and quickly to the 11the Circuit Appeals Court that oversees Cannon and insist that they punish Cannon as they did in the Special Master’s case (re: Raymond Dearie).

This new Cannon order “will almost certainly stretch into next year,” that according to Politico. So, this time the 11th Circuit needs to remove her from the case, and as I said right up front, ASAP.

Thanks for stopping by.
