Trump, as usual, has labeled as “Fake News” new reporting that he told Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt, a member of his exclusive Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, about calls he had with foreign leaders (Iraq and Ukraine), and the earlier report that he discussed our nuclear sub specifics with Pratt.
Then he discussed: (1) the number of nuclear missiles our subs carry, and (2) how close they can shadow Russian subs and not be detected.
This related update from THE HILL with this headline:
“Trump labels
report he told Mar-a-Lago member about calls with foreign leaders as fake news”
Also this same story coverage is here and here:
In a social media post, Trump adamantly denied reports from
The NY Times and 60 Minutes
Australia that he discussed nuclear submarines with Pratt.
He then attacked S/C Jack Smith who has charged Trump in two criminal cases.
Trump wrote in a post
on his platform “Truth Social”: “The Failing New York Times story, leaked
by Deranged Jack Smith and the Biden ‘Political Opponent Abuser’ DOJ, about a
red haired weirdo from Australia, named Anthony Pratt, is Fake News,” “I never
spoke to him about Submarines, but I did speak to him about creating jobs in
Ohio and Pennsylvania, because that’s what I’m all about: JOBS, A GREAT
ECONOMY, LOW TAXES, NO INFLATION, ENERGY DOMINANCE, STRONG BORDERS, NO ENDLESS
WARS, LOW INTEREST RATES, and much more!”
Trump then attacked
the quality of the news reporting, singling out well-known NY Times journalist
Maggie Haberman, who had one of the four bylines, and who has reported
extensively on Trump saying: “Maggie Hagerman and the Misfits never called
me for a comment. Why would they, they just write anything they want. Whether
it’s correct or not is of ZERO importance to them. “All the News That’s Unfit
to Print.” That’s why we call it the Fake News!”
New reporting from “60 Minutes Australia” and in the Times
reveals recordings from Pratt discussing his true feelings about Trump, the
front-runner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
The reporting also substantiates previous reporting from ABC
News that suggested Trump shared more classified information than was previously
confirmed publicly, specifically about nuclear submarines.
Reporting from all three outlets also suggested that Pratt shared the information he learned with scores of other people.
Pratt also is listed as a potential witness in one of the two criminal cases that S/C Smith has brought against Trump, related to classified documents.
My 2 Cents: No matter what
anyone’s view or opinion of Trump is now or when he was president or about him
seeking that office again, the key part is simple: His mishandling of highly
classified documents for himself or as reported above, to anyone not authorized
or cleared to see or handle those documents, is the most-serious crime ever.
He cannot be exempt just because he was president and wants to be again. Some people are in prison quicker and with long terms after fair and swift prosecution. Trump believes and tries to show that he is above the law.
In fact no one is above the law – once we give up that rule for Trump or anyone else, then our entire justice system collapses and that is not a good thing for our values and democracy. At least in my view.
Thanks for stopping by.
