You want some pathetic irony – then this SALON story lays it on thick with this headline:
“I think it's fantastic: George Santos is very happy the GOP just voted
to gut ethics office”
The new GOP House passed a new set of rules that weaken the
ability of the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate ethics-related
complaints about members of Congress, and Santos says: “It's fantastic.”
Why would he say that? Well, Santos himself faces ethics scrutiny for fabricating his
educational and professional background and pushing out falsehoods about having
Jewish heritage and monetary scams and such, and now he faces at least two Office of
Congressional Ethics complaints related to his financial disclosures.
FYI: The Office of Congressional Ethics is an independent body, established in 2008, that investigates complaints about sitting members of Congress.
It then determines
whether certain allegations are worth investigating further and then refers
them to the House Ethics Committee, which is divided evenly between Republicans
and Democrats.
But the recent rules package put forward by Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) imposes
term limits of eight years for board
members. Any board members who have exceeded those term limits would be
removed.
This would force out three of four Democratic-appointed members, and restrict the board's ability to hire professional staff for the first 30 days of the new congressional session.
This
can undermine its investigative powers for at least the next two years,
according to sources familiar with the matter.
The changes come as four
House Republicans, including McCarthy, have been referred for a review by
the January 6 select committee for violating congressional ethics rules by
defying subpoenas issued as part of the January 6 investigation.

My 2 Cents: Of course
Santos is happy about this law change made by his corrupt GOP, including
McCarthy and three other members who now will probably escape Ethics
investigations.
These new GOP rules get them
off the legal hook as it were.
So, welcome to the “new”
