The post for today is from Business Insider with the below headline and it supplements my two
earlier posts on the same subject seen here
and here.
“It could take a decade to
undo damage to the Republican Party caused by Fox News promoting election fraud
claims, says former GOP official”
Speaking on “State of the Union” on CNN Republican
former Lt. Gov. of Georgia, Geoff Duncan, said it would take a decade to undo
the damage to the GOP caused by Fox News in allegedly promoting conspiracy
theories about the 2020 election, now contained in a lawsuit released last week
by election machines company Dominion (here in .pdf format 192 pages) (a few key extract slides below from that
document - FYI).
Duncan said pushing the false narrative, Fox News
was pandering to its audience's prejudices for the sake of the bottom line
adding: “What happened on Fox News was hard for the Republican party, right? If
allowed, it might take a decade to unwind some of those false claims, the fanning
of the flames of all these conspiracy theories, and it was painful to watch and
listen to.”
In that lawsuit, Dominion
is suing Fox News for $1.6 billion, arguing it promoted baseless claims that
the company was involved in a vast conspiracy to deprive Trump of victory in
the 2020 presidential election.
A group of conservative
campaigners last year claimed Dominion had changed its voting machines to deny
re-election to Trump. There has been no evidence for voting fraud in the
presidential election.
The lawsuit claims that
top Fox network hosts and executives believed the claims to be false, and in
some cases privately mocked them, yet promoted them anyway in an apparent bid
to retain the loyalty of its large audience of Trump supporters.
Fox in a statement said that that Dominion's suit “Assails
the First Amendment and the news media's duty and right to report on matters of
significant public interest without fear of liability.”
My 2 Cents: If it can be
shown and proven that Fox knew it’s reporting on 2020 election and that claimed
by Trump to have been “rigged or stolen” from him (as shown in the slides and
elsewhere but also broadcast in Fox news host’s own words) then their clam to freedom
of the press falls flat and will not stand nor prevail in a court challenge
like this from Dominion in the voting machine libel suit now pending.
That aspect of their “freedom
of the press” claim outlined in 18 U.S. Code§ 1038 (cite from Cornell Law), takes a huger hit which specifically
prohibits “...any conduct with intent to convey false or misleading information
about activities that have taken place, are taking place, or will take place”
to be illegal, unlawful, and not constitutionally protected as Fox New now
claims in the $1.6 billion lawsuit filed by Dominion – who BTW is a company
founded in Canada and NOT Venezuela as Fox News hosts have claimed as well as Trump
and his sycophants (Giuliani, Powell, and many others who have and still
falsely claim election fraud). The only fraud is on Fox viewers and has now been exposed as very apparent.
This lawsuit should put a
big dent in Fox and the gang of lying fools and hopefully see their rating and promoters
withdraw their support – they have surely earned it.
Thanks for stopping by.
