Disgusting GOP House members and their latest stunt is a
slap in the face of the entire country – at least in my opinion – is this story
from the Daily Mail with this article headline:
“Democrats triggered as
GOP lawmakers wear assault rifle pins and shoot down ban on guns in committee”
Republican members of the House Natural Resources
Committee are up in arms after Democrats tried to re-impose a ban on carrying weapons
in the committee room.
Rep. Jared Huffman (D-CA)
introduced an amendment on Thursday that would explicitly prohibit members from
carrying firearms within the hearing rooms and conference rooms of any committee
in the House, saying: “We have too many members who have incited and
advocated armed political violence. That is really unfortunate, but that is
just a fact.”
Huffman accused unnamed
GOP lawmakers of “Flouting federal statutes barring members of Congress
from carrying loaded firearms in the Capitol.”
Huffman then concluded: “Some
members have reveled in the removal of the magnetometers at the House chamber
that were there to prevent something truly awful from happening.”
Even though he's stepped
away from committee duties earlier this week, the ethically challenged Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was spotted
wearing an assault rifle pin on his lapel, as was Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL)
and Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) wearing
his as a tie clasp (see photo posted above).
The GOP committee
chairman, Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR) opposed the amendment, calling it: “Unnecessary
and that no other committees had such a rule.”
Conservative
firebrand gun nut Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) taunted Huffman with a photo of
him wearing a tinfoil hat while claiming: “The Democrats were wasting time
on political stunts.”
Not surprisingly, the GOP then voted down the Huffman amendment
down 14-25, but not before a heated exchange between committee members,
including Huffman who called for a show of hands to see who was “packing heat.”
On that note: No Republicans
chose to response.
Huffman then asked: “Who feels like they need to carry a weapon in the fortress of the Capitol?” Again no GOP response.
Boebert again chimed
in alluding to high crime rates in Washington, DC saying: “With threats
against members of Congress at an all-time high, I would like to remind the
gentleman that now is not the time to be stripping members of our constitutional
right to defend ourselves.”
Then Rep. Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) insisted about learning more about the House rules, saying:
“I need to know for a sense of my own personal safety what your interpretation
of the House rules are as it pertains to this issue.”
Then Rep. Anna Luna (pictured
above with her AR-15 lapel pin) retorted: “Do you think we're going to hurt
you? We would never hurt you. I would use my firearm to defend you. Just to be
clear.”
The session ended on those remarks.
My 2 Cents: Once again and more clearly than ever we can see the
insanity of this new GOP clown show with the crazies in charge.
BTW: Assume they had been armed with guns and on the House floor on
January 6. Would those same GOP members now opposed to keeping the gun ban in
Congress have defended fellow members against those rioters who were breaking into
the House chamber to disrupt the official EC proceedings and preventing Joe
Biden from being certified as the 2020 election winner?
That is a logical and
timely question isn’t it, Mr. and Mrs. GOP?
Thanks for stopping by.
