Interesting yet very troubling story from
The Hill regarding FL Gov. Ron DeSantis’ move for an “Election Police
Force” with this headline:
“Attorney George Conway calls DeSantis’ plan for new
police force to monitor elections just pathetic”
Conway said on CNN in
the short clip seen in the link above: “It's all play-acting, it's
performance art. It's designed for DeSantis to protect himself ... so that
nobody can accuse him of being soft on the great election fraud, the fraudulent
fake election fraud of 2020, and it's just pathetic. This 2020 election was
just a remarkable feat of democracy. It should've been celebrated. We were in
the middle of a global pandemic and yet we had the greatest turnout we've had
in decades.”
DeSantis seeks $6 million to hire 52 people to establish the
Office of Election Crimes and Security which would be part of the FL’s Department
of State.
DeSantis wants the office: “To specifically investigate, detect, apprehend, and arrest anyone for an alleged violation of election laws” (reported on here from The Washington Post – and here from The Miami Herald Tribune).
A spokesperson for DeSantis said in an email to The Hill:
“The governor does not direct law enforcement in their day-to-day
responsibilities, nor would he tell the Office which specific allegations they
should or shouldn’t investigate. The governor simply wants to ensure that
Floridians will have a clear, straightforward way to report suspected voter
fraud, and that a dedicated team of law enforcement personnel can address it in
accordance with the law.”
DeSantis is seen by many as a prospective GOP presidential candidate in 2024. He said during his state of the state address that his office would: “Ensure that elections are conducted in accordance with the rule of law. I propose an election integrity unit whose sole focus will be the enforcement of Florida’s election laws. This will facilitate the faithful enforcement of election laws and will provide Floridians with the confidence that their vote will matter.”
My 2 Cents: I am not a lawyer nor an election law expert, but this move by DeSantis sure wreaks of many Jim Crow era style ploys like those seen in this article.
Those were found long ago to be illegal and since proven to be unconstitutional
as seen in these historical examples.
Simply stated – DeSantis is off his rocker and turning into a mini-me Donald J. Trump – he mentor or so it would seem.
Even Trump said: “I made Governor DeSantis what he is today.”
A lot more to go before
Trump is brought to justice and held accountable for January 6 and NYS criminal
charges as well. Maybe DeSantis is next with this his proposed illegal election oversight plan.
Thanks for stopping by.
