Guns No Biggie: Need More or So Implies this New GOP and Old NRA

Very startling statistics of grave concern

Fear and hype spreader with lots of disinformation

This practically daily news is getting worse: Mass shooting all over the country. This story covers 2020 from the Washington Post (that was reported on March 23) and more so today, it paints a bleak picture of America with this headline:

Shootings never stopped during the pandemic: 2020 was the deadliest gun violence year in decades

My introduction: What the hell is wrong in America now? Ask Republicans they will blame the Democrats – which is a false narrative.

I say: Ask the Republicans – they are the ones spreading fear and hate and disinformation about us becoming a communist country, or worse, based on Democratic policies – that too is patently false.

From the above story, the chart data, and the recent string of shootings around the nation are of grave concern – or at least they should be - some 47 mass shootings in since March began.

The shootings at the spas in the Atlanta and then the shooting at a grocery store in Boulder killed a combined 18 people and rejuvenated a national effort to overhaul gun laws.

All that has been followed by a shooter who killed eight at a FedEx facility near Indianapolis (then took his own life) – lest we never forget the shootings in Orange, CA and Rock Hill, SC.

Then just recently (April 18) in Milwaukee: Three people were shot dead and a manhunt was underway after a gunman opened fire at a busy Kenosha (WI) County tavern.

Then the same day this in Austin, TX: Three people were killed during what police initially described as an active shooting in Austin. At a news conference, police have identified the suspect but said they are still looking for him.

But high-profile mass shootings such as those tend to overshadow the instances of everyday violence that account for most gun deaths, potentially clouding some people’s understanding of the problem and complicating the country’s response, experts say.

Mark Barden, a co-founder of the gun violence prevention group Sandy Hook Promise says:There are many communities across this country that are dealing with ever-present gun violence that is just part of their daily experience.  It doesn’t get the support, the spotlight, the national attention. People don’t understand that it’s continuous and it’s on the rise.”

Shooting deaths in 2020 outpaced the next-highest recent year, 2017, by more than 3,600. The rise resembles other alarming trends: Last year, the United States saw the highest one-year increase in homicides since it began keeping records, with the country’s largest cities suffering a 30 percent spike. Gunshot injuries also rose dramatically, to nearly 40,000, over 8,000 more than in 2017.

Ronnie Dunn, a professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University, using a figure that includes suicides said:More than 100 Americans are killed daily by gun violence. The majority are in Black and Brown communities. We don’t really focus on gun violence until we have these mass shootings, but it’s an ongoing, chronic problem that affects a significant portion of our society.”

Now this (and a huge roadblock to boot): President Biden reignited pressure on Congress to pass gun reform saying publicly:Gun violence is an epidemic in America. But we should not accept it. We must act. God bless the eight fellow Americans we lost in Indianapolis and their loved ones, and we pray for the wounded for their recovery.”

GOP Mindset:Whack-a-DEM

The House last month passed legislation to expand background checks and close a big loophole that says in essence:  In some places you can buy a buy a gun in one day just by showing a driver’s license, but in that same place, you can’t vote unless you jump through a load of hoops to prove who you are.”

That bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate, where it will likely need 60 votes to pass.

However, Biden also unveiled a series of executive orders aimed at curbing gun violence, including restrictions on so-called ghost guns.

My 2 cents: We see this kind of picture all over the country on display by arrogant gun-toting people. What does say about who we are and what does it say about what they claim to be defending and protecting us for what reason other than to be defiant and show off armed to the teeth and for logical reason – I say no reason whatsoever.

I also ask the Supreme Court how can anyone see this growing scene and not be alarmed and scared to do anything out of fear of losing their life:

Defiance run amok

The “open carry laws” in the country are way out of hand. They must be repealed ASAP. Some will say “It’s our right and it’s legal” true, but it damn sure isn’t rational thinking to see it all over the place and wide open, too.

This return to the old “Wild, Wild West” days is the last thing we need. It must be put to a halt ASAP.

I’m done ranting now.

Thanks for stopping by.
