Trump hates nuclear arms treaties without
even knowing the repercussions
If we ever have a nuclear war it will happen this way
1. JCPOA – Iran nuclear agreement
(2015) – U.S., UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia:
Trump railed against the deal on the campaign trail, arguing that it was
one of the worst deals that had ever been made and that its terms, including
returning a large amount of money to Iran, were ridiculous. Many within the
foreign policy establishment recommended against withdrawal from the agreement,
though, arguing that it would be an effective way to keep Iran contained. For a
while, those voices prevailed.
2. Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
(2016) U.S. and these other 11 nations: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam. Trump as a candidate, arguing in broad terms that it was a
bad deal for the United States and, at one point, that agreeing to it might
somehow empower China. (Note: China was not even a party to the agreement). Three days into his presidency, the United
States was out of the trade agreement.
3.
The Paris climate accord (2015) – U.S. and 194 nations: Was meant to be a nonbinding global agreement
that would result in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from both large
and small economies. Trump, again, criticized the agreement on the campaign
trail as putting the United States at an economic disadvantage. In June 2017,
he announced that the United States would withdraw from the accord — though
that process won’t be finalized until the day after the 2020 presidential
election.
4. The U.N. Human Rights Council (2006):
Trump was frustrated at the body’s treatment of Israel. Interestingly, Israel still participates in
the council although they did no sign it.
5.
World Trade Organization (WTO) (1995 – U.S. and 124
nations). It replaced the General Agreement on Tariffs and
Trade (GATT), which had commenced in 1948. It is the largest
international economic organization in the world. How isolated the United
States would be if it were to leave the WTO. We would join Turkmenistan,
Greenland, Eritrea, North Korea, and French Guiana WTO observers only.
6.
NAFTA (1993) – U.S., Mexico, and Canada: Now called the USMCA (2018 pending). The same
three, now pending Senate action.
7.
Group of 7 (G-7) – U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,
the UK. It was formerly the G-8 before Russia was
booted out for seizing Crimea. After contentious debates Trump announced after
his departure that the United States would not sign a joint statement
meant to represent the seven member states
– 62% of the Global Wealth.
8. NATO (1949) – U.S. and 12 nations: The biggie - Trump has repeatedly
disparaged NATO members for not contributing their fair share to the alliance
and has reportedly complained about the organization in private conversations
with world leaders as well.
The two most-recent:
9. The INF: That treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty) was signed by then-President Reagan
and former USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1987 (31 years ago). It required the elimination of short-range and
intermediate-range nuclear and conventional missiles by both countries. Its
demise would raise the possibility of a spiraling arms race.
10. The New Start Treaty: The official name is: Strategic Arms
Reduction Treaty. It is a nuclear arms reduction treaty between
the United States and Russia.
It was signed on April 8, 2010 in Prague, and, after Senate ratification, has
entered into force on February 5, 2011. It is expected to last at least
until 2021.
Under terms of the treaty, the number of strategic nuclear
missile launchers will be reduced by half. A new inspection and verification
regime will be established. It does not limit the number of operationally
inactive stockpiled nuclear warheads which will remain in the high
thousands in both the Russian and American inventories.
On February 9, 2017, Trump
in his first 60-minute telephone call with Putin inquired about extending New
START, but then later Trump claimed the treaty favored Russia and was “one of
several bad deals negotiated by the Obama administration.”
My 2 cents: Trump hates all deals, partnerships,
agreements, and treaties that he personally has not made – regardless of how
long they have been effectively working basically since WWII or when the “Cold
War” ended.
There is plenty
of evidence that shows the proof. But, Trump still hates them all. That is damn
scary all by itself.
So, Mr.
Trump, I have breaking news for you, too. We hate you too for your sick misguided
attitude about nuclear weapons that threaten every living thing on Earth.
Memo for Mr. and Mrs. GOP Congress: Get off your scared asses and stop this madman.
For Mr. and
Mrs. American Voter: You must vote and help get out the vote to stop this insanity. Things under
Trump are getting more out of control and perhaps in some cases beyond repair,
or would take decades to fix.
But we must
try – we must never give up except to give up on him – the worse president in
American history, hands down. So, vote November 6 as if the future relies on because
it does. Positive change is now long overdue.
Thanks for
stopping by.
