United Police States of America: What the Hell Has Happened to Us, Really

Police Today, or Infantry Combat Patrol in Kabul or Mosul
(Hard to tell the diff isn't it)

Where we are today, or where we are heading tomorrow
(Protesters: Meet your match)

Call this subject the beginning of the end thanks solely to Donald J. Trump:American Emperor-in-the-Making.”

WASHINGTON (USA TODAY) — The Trump administration has lifted a controversial ban on the transfer of some surplus military equipment to police departments whose battlefield-style response to rioting in a St. Louis suburb three years ago prompted a halt to the program. The new plan takes effect immediately and fully rolls back an Obama administration executive order that blocked armored vehicles, large-caliber weapons, ammunition and other heavy equipment from being re-purposed from foreign battlefields to America's streets.

AG Sessions led the campaign for the program's reinstatement outlined the new Trump EO in an address to the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the nation's largest police union, suggesting that Obama's directive was a concession to political pressure applied by civil rights advocates, saying in part:We will not put superficial concerns above public safety. All you need to do is turn on a TV right now to see that for Houstonians this isn't about appearances, it's about getting the job done and getting everyone to safety.”

Further, the administration's action, first disclosed by USA TODAY would:  “Restore the full scope of a longstanding program for recycling surplus, lifesaving gear from the DOD along with restoring the full scope of grants used to purchase this type of equipment from other sources. Assets that would otherwise be scrapped can be re-purposed to help state, local and tribal law enforcement better protect public safety and reduce crime.”

Included in the gear are such things as rocket-launchers and bayonets. According to the Trump plan, the bayonets would likely be re-purposed as utility knives and the launchers used to shoot tear gas canisters, instead of lethal ammunition.

My Conclusion: Wow – Amerika now starts to resemble Nazi Germany of the 1930’s or at the very least a segment from the popular TV show like “24” or some media clips from the latest Stallone flick: “The Expendables,” or something similar.

Armed hostage situations with cops under fire, or terrorist attacks, and like situations, yes, perhaps those things are needed. But, not needed to squelch angry protesters riled up about unwarranted police shootings or some other public outrage. I’m not so hot or sold on that aspect… what about you?

I say: Save the military action on the battlefield and not on the streets of America with our police forces – unless of course Trump, Inc. knows something we do not.

Or perhaps he has a longer range plan in this power struggle that he believes he needs a “Jack Bauer and CTU busting down doors or breaking up angry citizens, or maybe a platoon of APC’s or tanks with platoons of infantry dressed cops armed with PRGs, bayonets, and large caliber weapons.

Hardly.

Stay tuned.
