Precursor of the New America

Daryl Cagle always captures the moment in his posted cartoons —

My Views:

• Every police force across America today looks like a "Jack Bauer/CTU backup team" storming a hideout; Drones [here] and [LA Times here] are coming to the skies of the nearest neighborhood; police forces and Federal agencies run a muck resembling the Stasi police of old East Germany; and the lines between the protection of our rights vs. our safety are unclear now more than at any time in our history (for all of us).

PBS presents a fine article here — listing five issues that are especially worrisome to civil liberties watchdogs: Each one is detailed in the article.

1. Indefinite military detentions of U.S. citizens

2. Targeting U.S. citizens for killing (see my post on that topic here)

3. Arresting witnesses for recording police actions

4. Using GPS to track your every move

5. Surveillance drones spying on American soil (as discussed above)

These are my observations as we move into 2012. But, we shall see ... however, this little guy in the cartoon brings that message and point into focus and closer to home than ever before. Stay tuned.
